Custom Plastic Clamshell Packaging

FormTight specializes in producing custom clamshells spanning a wide variety of types, sizes, and purposes.  Clamshell packaging provides a durable shell to transport your product during shipping while also providing a quality presentation at its destination.

Typically, clamshells will be produced using PET or PVC depending on your requirements.  Both materials offer clarity, which is a pivotal component for retail.  At FormTight, we specialize in custom form fitting clamshells that will be unique to your product and add a special level of detail to your packaging.

Clamshells can be closed by either utilizing snap features or sealing the sides together.  For snapping features, we can explore a perimeter snap, button snaps, or a custom idea you may have.  For sealing options, we may focus on using PVC for the clamshell as it will have better sealing results compared to PET.

Types of Clamshell Packaging

Bifold – The Bifold Clamshell is the traditional clamshell with two components (front and back or right and left).  Generally, one of the sides will be the cavity while the other side is flat to hold the product in place.  The most common clamshell design is a front/back design with the front having the cavity and the back being flat.

Trifold – Trifold Clamshells provide the customer with the ability to have the package stand by itself or hang.  Due to the added material required for the Trifold, these are more expensive compared to the Bifold, but customers enjoy the versatility this design provides.

Quadfold – Quadfold Clamshells provide the highest level of protection due to the multiple layers of material.  If the product is going to have a difficult transit to its destination, then the additional levels of security are worth exploring.

Testimonials

  • We are a small manufacturing business in Denver Colorado that has several custom packaging needs for the product we sell. FormTight was able to look at our current packaging and reengineer our packaging to not only reduce our packaging cost but improve our product's appearance on our customer's shelf which has resulted in more sales. We have also found that because of their state of the art tooling fabrication capability, our tooling costs are less, turnaround time is quicker and we have more options on what we can do with the design of our packaging. Want to thank everyone at FormTight as they are our go to vendor.

  • We needed a custom product in a very short period of time and of course we needed it over the Holidays and under a very tight timeframe! Form Tight came through when no one else could. Customer service was excellent! Doug Ramsey came down in person to make sure we were all on the same page, met with a secondary company to make sure all the components would work together and then followed through all the way to the delivery. The final delivered product was on time and the quality is what was promised, 100%. I would recommend Form Tight to anyone who needed their services.

  • After another thermoforming supplier proved unable to produce a useable part, FormTight went the extra mile to expedite material and production to meet an aggressive schedule. Our first meeting was very productive since FormTight included their thermoforming process experts and a representative from their preferred tooling foundry. Their selection of a different manufacturing technique (male instead of a female tool) was key to the success of the project.
