FormTight manufactures a wide variety of stock and custom clamshell packaging. Clamshell blister packaging provides a durable shell to transport your product to the point of purchase. Clamshells come in a variety of shapes and sizes and are commonly made from clear materials such as PVC and RPET. These materials offer high visibility of your product. Many clamshell packages are custom formed to hold the specific shape of your product, adding protection and ease of assembly.
PVC and RPET clamshells can be spot welded (sealed) or completely welded around the perimeter to help keep the product from being pilfered. Packaging made of PVC material can also be heat staked. These sealing solutions deter theft and are cursed by all when it comes time to open the clamshell package. Center cut hanger holes can also be included to keep the weight of your product balanced on a pegboard rod.
FormTight produces the following types of clamshell packages:
Tri-fold Clamshell Packaging - similar to a standard clamshell, a tri-fold clamshell provides the retailer with the ability to stand the product on a shelf or at the checkout counter. Tooling and parts required to produce tri-fold clamshells results in approximately 10% more cost than that of a standard clamshell.
Quad-fold Clamshell Packaging - going one step further than a tri-fold clamshell, quad-fold clamshells can be hung in addition to serving as a stand alone package; however, quad-fold clamshells are not stackable packages. The quad-fold clamshell offers the best protection of any packages in the clamshell line. When your product is kept inside the edges by 3/16”, a dropped quad-fold package absorbs all of the impact, keeping your product safe. There is more material used in making the quad-fold clamshell and while it is the most expensive type of clamshell packaging, it is the most flexible choice.
